We will begin our bike ride at Acjanaco Pass and descend into the lush rainforest below! Along the way, we will make a stop to enjoy a beautiful nature hike in the cloud forest that ends at a canopy walkway. This evening we will stay at a rustic jungle lodge across from a 300-foot cascading waterfall!
Day 2 – Cock of the Rock Lek, Bike to Pillcopata & River Raft:
We will rise this morning to the sounds of the Amazon! Early, we will make our way to the Cock of the Rock Lek (the National Bird of Peru). It is here that they partake in a daily mating ritual, which we will observe. Afterwards, we will embark on a jungle waterfall hike & then make our way to Pillcopata via mountain biking, where our rafting adventure will begin! At the conclusion of the rafting we will then board a charter boat – headed even deeper into the Amazon jungle.
Day 3 – Blue-Headed Parrot Clay Lick, Waterfall Hike & Hot Springs:
We will rise early to take a boat to the nearby Blue-Headed Parrot Clay Lick. Here, we will enjoy watching these colorful birds flock to this special location! Afterwards we will hike to several beautiful waterfalls and enjoy a dip in the hot springs! In the afternoon, we will again board our boat and finally enter the remote Manu National Park.
Day 4 – Salvador Lake, Jungle Hikes & Orotongo Lake:
This morning we will travel to Salvador Lake where we will board a catamaran for wildlife viewing. Animals commonly spotted on the lake include giant river otters, capybaras, caiman, 11-species of monkeys & hundreds of species of birds. We will also hike several jungle trails at the lake & then boat to Orotongo Lake to spend time in its wildlife observation tower.
Day 5 – Boat to Manu Wildlife Center & Tapir Clay Lick:
Today we will have a long boat ride to Manu Wildlife Center. Along the way there are plenty of chances for wildlife observation. This evening we will embark on a short hike to their exclusive Mammal & Tapir Clay Lick to spot these gentle creatures in the wild!
Day 6 – Sunrise Canopy Rappel & Jungle Hikes:
Get ready for an epic adventure into the Amazon canopy! This morning we will partake on a sunrise canopy rappel. Wildlife in the rainforest is most active in the morning and we will immerse ourselves into their treetop environment. The afternoon will be filled with jungle hikes along the Manu Wildlife Center’s private 19-mile trail system.
Day 7 – Blanquillo Macaw Clay Lick & Transfer to Puerto Maldonado:
An early boat departure from the lodge will take us to one of the most renowned clay licks in the entire world – Blanquillo Macaw Clay Lick. We will spend 2-hours behind a blind viewing several species of brightly-colored macaws, parrots & parakeets in their natural habitat! The rest of the day will be spent traveling via car & boat to Puerto Maldonado.
Day 8 – Depart Puerto Maldonado:
We will awake in our jungle lodge on the banks of the Madre de Dios River. This is our last day in the Amazon and guests are free to enjoy it at leisure.
