Our favorite trek in the entire world is the 5-Day Lodge to Lodge Ausangate Trek. This route meanders through alpaca filled valleys to the base of Apu Ausangate, passed emerald glacier lakes and to Peru's famed rainbow mountain, Vinicunca. Each day is absolutely stunning and different from the next. Treks are escorted by a private guide, local community members and llama porters. Guests also have the opportunity to sleep in the highest mountain lodge in the world - Machuraccay Tambo - located at nearly 16,000 feet.
The magical streets of Cusco....
Aguaymanto, also known as gooseberry, goldenberry or groundcherry, is a unique part of Peruvian cuisine. It is commonly made into marmalade or sauces, but can also be found in salads, desserts, cocktails or even eaten straight!
I would be remiss if I didn't truthfully admit that the last two weeks have been mentally hard for me. March is the beginning of our season here in Cusco. Due to the political situation in Peru that occurred last December and the subsequent issues that transpired, almost all of our business cancelled this year. It has been hard to think of what we would have been operating these two weeks - multiple Inca Trail treks from KM104, a Pumamarca Trek and several custom tours in Cusco and the Sacred Valley. It does break my heart a little, but we are grateful for the groups that did not cancel this year and for the ones that rescheduled. However, it also reminds me that travel is therapy and time is precious. We have a surprise trip to Lima in a few weeks, a trek I have been wanting to do in Huaraz for many years nearly booked and a ski trip to Portillo in Chile to look forward to. Life has been good to Daniel and I and I know Peru will recover from this setback. ❤️🙏
We went for a walk in the clouds yesterday! Over 2,000 feet above Machu Picchu is the summit of Machu Picchu Mountain. This incredible trail is worth every step for the sweeping 360 degree view from the top. This is one of the additional hikes you can do within Machu Picchu and is a great option for those who want an extra challenge and are not afraid of heights!
