Huge congratulations to @captainpotter for his work on this absolutely extraordinary series "Back to the Wild". If you haven't seen the episode Coral Gardeners, then you really need to. Daniel and I had the pleasure of working with Sam several years ago. Daniel guided him to a very remote area of the Peruvian Amazon to film another video. Sam's passion for the world and his incredible storytelling ability gives me hope for the future! ❤️
June is the month of celebrations in Cusco and is always quite the spectacle! From Qoyllur Rit'i to Corpus Christi and Inti Raymi - some of the largest celebrations in South America - to many others, Cusco's main plaza comes alive with regional dances and processions every day of June. It is quite a sight to behold! Last night we attended the Ceremony of the Sacred Flame at Qorikancha and behind us the Ukukus were departing for Paucartambo to begin their pilgrimage to Qoyllur Rit'i. The Peruvian Andes is such a special place because through colonization, globalization and modernization the local people were still able to maintain their indigenous beliefs.
This month Manu National Park celebrated its 50th Anniversary! Manu has consistently been ranked as one of the most biologically diverse places in the entire world and is incredibly special to us. Daniel started his career here more than 20 years ago - from being a volunteer park ranger to living within the park for many years, becoming a well-respected guide and naturalist to finally a landowner in the Amazon buffer zone of the park - he is extremely connected to this area. We hope that the conservation and preservation of this area continues for our future generations. ❤️
On Day 2 of our weekend adventure Daniel and I (and the dogs) hiked all over his family's land. The views were absolutely stunning from every angle. It was so nice to be completely isolated in rural Peru!
We spent the weekend at Daniel's family hacienda and it was rejuvenating. We always hike in, camp, BBQ, roast marshmallows and bond as a family. I loved this agave with geraniums growing out of it!
It is no secret that Daniel and I love trekking! View our stories to see one of my favorite trails in the entire world. Hint: It combines two of my favorite things - the High Andes & Amazon!
