5-Day Lares & Inca Trail Trek

The trek focuses on the culture of the local Andean people & lifestyle (while passing through stunning scenery) as well as the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. This gives trekkers the total package of soaking in the Lares Hot Springs, meandering through the Maras Salt Mines, beautiful views of the Andes as well as the experience of trekking through the Sun Gate for the first site of Machu Picchu! Trekkers will also have the option of summiting Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain.

Day 1 – Lares Hot Springs / Kiswarani Waterfall:
After an early pick-up, it will be a 3 hour drive along the beautiful landscape of the Sacred Valley and through the Andes until arrival at the Lares Hot Springs. Trekkers will enjoy their first breakfast accompanied by amazing views of the Andes Mountains. After breakfast you will have time to enjoy the medicinal hot springs. After, there will be a 20-minute drive to the trailhead, Punta Carretera at 3,300 meter / 10,827.
The hike will begin with a gradual 2 hour ascent until lunch, which is served at the first village, Kiswarani. This section of the hike is considered the potato valley sector, where people farm many varieties of organic potatoes. Trekkers will also have time to explore the village and visit some local homes where you will learn about the lifestyle and ancient traditions of the local people.
It will be another two hour, gradual uphill hike until we arrive at the campsite. Trekkers will enjoy some hot drinks as the sky darkens and the stars start appearing. The guide will teach the group about the Southern constellation which were studied at great length by the Incan people. The guide will use a telescope to spot the famous Incan constellations, such as the Southern Cross (Cruz del Sur) cosmic constellation, Orion and many others. Dinner will then be served.

Day 2 – Kiswarani / Condor Pass / Cancha Cancha Village:
Trekkers will awake at 5 AM for breakfast & beautiful views of Kiswarani Valley. Trekkers will begin the scenic 3-4 hour climb to Pachacute (Condor Pass). A safety horse will be provided and once at the summit, trekkers will be rewarded with 360 degree views! After a 1 hour descent, lunch will be served a El Mirador (Vista Point). After lunch, trekkers will descend for approximately 3 hours before arriving at the campsite in the village of Cancha Cancha. Cancha Cancha is a village (3,750 meters / 12,303 feet) where the local residents still practice the Incan traditions. Trekkers will have some time to meet with the local children. The staff provide them with food and school supplies and we also invite our guests to share with them as well. The native people will also teach the guests about their traditional way of life.

Day 3 – Cancha Cancha / Huaran / Maras Salt Mine / Ollantaytambo:
Guests will be awoken with a breakfast and hot drinks. After breakfast, trekkers will have time to explore the village and visit the local elementary school, where the ancient Inca, language, Quechua, is still spoken. It will then be 4 hours of walking downhill to the village of Huaran, in the Sacred Valley of the Incas (2,700 meters / 8,858 feet). From here, transportation will be provided to the Maras Salt Mines, which have been in use since pre-Incan times. After the visit, trekkers will be transported to Ollantaytambo where they will stay in a hotel for the evening.

Day 4 – Inca Trail to Machu Picchu:
After an early breakfast trekkers will depart on the train bound for KM 104 (trailhead) to begin the Inca Trail Trek! A few hours of uphill will take trekkers to the most beautiful Incan site on the Inca Trail, Winay Wayna (Forever Young) at 2,600 meters / 8,500 feet. This site boasts an elaborate water fountain, temples and agricultural terraces, which provide a perfect opportunity to learn about the history of the Incas. From Wiñay Wayna, trekkers will continue to ascend to the famed Sun Gate, where the first views of Machu Picchu can be enjoyed! Trekkers will continue another hour down into the site of Machu Picchu and then make their way to Machu Picchu Pueblo, where dinner and a hotel are included.

Day 5 – Machu Picchu / Return to Cusco:
Today will be guests’ day to experience the wonder of Machu Picchu! A privately guided 2-hour tour is included. Afterwards, guests will have time to explore Machu Picchu on their own. Tickets for Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain must be purchased in advance. Transportation back to Cusco will be provided and that will conclude your trekking experience!
